The City Gardens Development Takes Next Big Step Forward December 14, 2021

Kamloops, B.C.: the team at Kelson Group is celebrating today with the approval of the development permit for their downtown development, City Gardens, which will consist of 525 units of housing.

First introduced back in September 2020, City Gardens was the vision of Kelson Group to not only add to the vibrancy of Kamloops’ downtown core but to increase density downtown and help relieve the current shortage of housing in the city. Since 2020, community engagement initiatives have led to Kelson Group making some modifications to the original plans and submitting those revised plans to the City of Kamloops’ Development Services department. Receiving the approval to start the development work is like an early Christmas gift for Ron Fawcett.

“Our team is thrilled to receive the approval of our development permit,” said Ron Fawcett, Executive Director and Founder of Kelson Group, and the visionary behind the City Gardens development. “To get to this moment has taken a lot of work for our team, our architects, engineers, the City’s Development Services team, and the community who were generous with their feedback to help us make this the best project we could for downtown. We cannot wait to move forward.”

Moving forward for Kelson Group means work will kick into high gear for the construction of a sales centre and show suite at 220 4th Avenue. The company sees this physical location as an opportunity to welcome people, share the City Gardens vision with them, and gauge interest from potential purchasers, which has been very high so far.

“We have a rather large database of interested people and we get inquiries daily asking what is happening with the development, when they will find out pricing details, and put their name down to purchase a suite,” said Jason Fawcett, President of Kelson Group. “We appreciate City Council and the Development Services department for their approval of the project. The approval means we can start finalizing the paperwork we need to develop our disclosure statement to be ready to start sales. With the approval, we anticipate launching sales sometime in early spring of 2022 and we are hoping to start construction of the 800-car parkade in March.”

When sales launch, a 24-storey residential tower will be the first building of six within the development to be built, marketed, and sold.
