Romance Close to Home: Downtown Date Ideas in Kamloops

Romance does not have to be complicated; it just has to be close. In downtown Kamloops, February is filled with easy, meaningful date ideas that don’t require long drives or big plans — just a willingness to step outside and enjoy what’s right nearby. From winter skating to candlelit dinners and live music, downtown offers thoughtful ways to spend time together, all within walking distance.

Lace Up for a Winter Date at Riverside Park

This winter, Riverside Park welcomed a new outdoor skating facility in the heart of downtown Kamloops, adding a charming seasonal activity to the neighbourhood. Lace up your skates for a playful glide on the ice, then warm up by the firepit and enjoy views along the river — a simple, relaxed way to spend time together.

The rink is open daily for free public skating, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm Sunday through Thursday, with extended hours until 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Whether it’s an afternoon outing or an evening skate under the lights, it’s an easy and romantic date idea right at the core of downtown.

A Candlelit Dinner at The Brownstone Restaurant

After skating, head indoors for a cozy evening at The Brownstone — a downtown Kamloops landmark since 2004. Set inside the historic 1904 Canadian Bank of Commerce building, the restaurant offers a warm, elegant atmosphere that feels intimate without being formal.

Owners Dale and Connie Decaire envisioned The Brownstone as a neighbourhood restaurant where guests feel welcomed, remembered, and well cared for. With candlelight, thoughtful service, and beautifully prepared dishes, it’s the kind of place where conversation lingers and the evening unfolds naturally.

An Evening of Music at Paramount Theatre

For a date night that feels a little different, candlelight concerts are bringing live music to the Paramount Theatre in February. Hosted in partnership with the Kamloops Film Society, these performances create a multi-sensory experience under the soft glow of candlelight.

On February 20, choose between two shows:

  • 6:00 pm – Queen vs. ABBA
  • 8:30 pm – Coldplay vs. Imagine Dragons

With assigned seating, an intimate setting, and live music filling the space, it’s an unforgettable way to end an evening downtown.

Love Where You Live

Living downtown means moments like these are always close — spontaneous, relaxed, and easy to enjoy. Whether it’s skating by the river, sharing a candlelit meal, or settling into live music just steps from home, downtown Kamloops makes it simple to turn everyday evenings into something special.
