As we step into 2025, the City Gardens project is shaping up to be one of the most exciting real estate opportunities in Kamloops. Trillium Tower is on track for completion later this year, while the second tower, Alyssium, begins its ascent, and the first of the six-story condos, Orchid, takes shape.
We spoke with Kelson Group’s Interior Design Lead, Trish Becher, to get an inside look at how her team is bringing this ambitious vision to life. With thoughtfully designed spaces and a focus on quality, City Gardens offers a unique chance to own a home in the heart of downtown.
“As the interior design director and lead for Kelson Group since late 2022, I have overseen any design changes that have evolved over the course of construction, and continue to oversee the design of the lobbies, amenities, and other common areas,” she said.
Trillium’s suite interior finishes were chosen with lasting beauty in mind, featuring durable materials that are not only resilient but also easy to care for. Similarly, these contribute to healthy indoor air quality by being pet-friendly and avoiding trapping allergens like dust or mold.
“As ensuring healthy indoor air quality goes beyond the surface of the interior finishes and materials, careful attention was given to ensure that the products selected were zero or ultra-low Volatile Organic Compounds emissions,” added Becher. “One of the most important roles that a designer has is understanding what the finish materials are made of and ensuring that the materials are not off-gassing harmful chemicals into the interior space and the atmosphere.”
Other durable surfaces used in the Trillium residences include large format porcelain tiles, quartz countertops and full kitchen splashes. By using large format tiles and full quartz kitchen splashes, the team greatly limited grout lines and joints, which is where moisture can build and microbes like mold can grow.
In terms of colour schemes, Becher and her team chose modern but timeless colours inspired by our natural environment. As such, the basis of the schemes became either a solar or lunar undertone – one is light, vibrant and airy, while the other is dark, daring and dramatic.
“They speak to two entirely different audiences, which is really the goal for us as designers – appealing to a wide spectrum of personalities and tastes,” she noted.
