Kamloops City Gardens Development Officially Breaks Ground March 16, 2022

Kamloops, B.C.: City Gardens, Kelson Group’s multi-building residential project being built in downtown Kamloops, has officially broken ground. The project, which has been in the planning stages for many years, marked the ground-breaking with Mayor and Council, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc elder Diena Jules, plus many others from the community who have played a key role to ensure the development would add to the vibrancy of the downtown core.

“Today is significant to our team at Kelson Group, but also for the greater community,” said Jason Fawcett. “For many, we realize this is one of the first visual cues that City Gardens is happening, but for our team, this has been years in the dreaming and planning stages, and now we move into the construction stage.”

First introduced to the public back in September 2020, the vision of City Gardens was to not only add to the vibrancy of Kamloops’ downtown core but to increase density in a central location and help relieve the current shortage of housing in the city. The first building, a 24-storey residential tower, will start to rise in about a year as the excavation work to build the three level, underground parkade starts first.

“Early on, many people filled out our survey for the development and register for our newsletter and we thank everyone for their patience as we’ve gone through a lot of work to get to where we are today,” said Fawcett. “We will be opening our Sales Centre and Show Suite this April and sales will launch this May where we’ll have our disclosure documents with pricing and suite details ready. It’s an exciting time for our community.”

The ground-breaking is a significant day as well to Kelson Group’s founder and Executive Director Ron Fawcett.

“Today is a spectacular day,” said Ron. “To have so many people involved in such a large undertaking, and to see it really coming together on the ground, is exciting. I hope our community is just as excited as we are.”

About City Gardens

The City Gardens development has a projected value of $180-$200 Million and the design includes a 24-storey and a 22-storey tower, four 6-storey apartment buildings, some with townhomes. The land area exceeds 150,000 square feet (about 3.5 acres) and the current design concept has  525 residential units. Expectations are that up to 60% of the housing will be market condos and the balance rental suites. Interest from the community will determine the final allocation.
