As fall slowly starts to make its way into downtown Kamloops, take advantage of the sunny days and chilly evenings to explore everything happening in the core of the city this month. From art-packed weekends to hockey nights with friends, September in the City Gardens neighbourhood promises a time for connection and celebration.
If you are looking to dive deeper into Indigenous narratives, or simply enjoy a good film during the week, you will want to check out the Indigenous Film Festival, presented by the Kamloops Film Society in collaboration with Tkʼemlúps te Secwépemc.
From September 27th to 29th, visit the Paramount Theatre on 503 Victoria Street and enjoy a mix of Canadian and select international films, each offering unique perspectives and powerful narratives that speak to the heart of Indigenous cultures around the world. This festival will also showcase contemporary Indigenous filmmakers, actors, artists, and community organizations.
You’re still in time to enjoy this staple community event! September is the last full month of the Saturday Outdoor Farmer’s Market so make plans to visit the 200 block of St Paul St. and the Stuart Wood schoolyard in downtown Kamloops. Enjoy everything from fresh pastries and local produce to hand-made jewelry and home décor and start your weekends on the right foot this season.
Let the hockey season commence! Cheer on the Kamloops Blazers starting their pre-season games on September 6 and 13 at the Sandman Centre. And if you can’t make it, don’t worry because the regular season begins just a week later on September 20. Purchase your tickets online or at the door, or watch live by visiting their website.
The Kamloops Children’s Arts Festival is back on September 21 from 10 am to 4 pm at Riverside Park, with workshops happening on September 20. This event promises a creative day of artistic, musical, and theatrical activities and performances, ideal for children ages 2 to 12. This event is completely free for children and their families and this year’s festival will once again feature workshops, storytelling, and performances from local groups.
Mark your calendars and make the most of September by exploring these enriching activities and connecting with the heart of Kamloops. Whether you’re drawn to the compelling stories of the Indigenous Film Festival, the fresh delights of the Farmer’s Market, the thrill of Kamloops Blazers hockey games, or the creative activities of the Children’s Art Festival, we can guarantee you will have a lot of fun – no matter your age!
